Tazer Unlocker Guide: Everything It Does for Your Challenger

The Tazer is a plug-in OBD-II device that unlocks hidden factory features on the Challenger without touching the PCM tune. Here's every feature it enables and whether it's worth buying for your specific car.

Tazer Unlocker Guide: Everything It Does for Your Challenger

What Is the Tazer?

The Z Automotive Tazer is a small OBD-II plug-in device that communicates with the Challenger's various control modules — BCM, PCM, TIPM — to enable features that are present in the factory software but disabled by default.

It's not a tune. It doesn't modify fuel maps, timing, or performance parameters. It unlocks hidden functionality in the factory software.

Features It Unlocks (2015–2023 Challenger)

Performance Features:

  • Line Lock: Engages front brakes hydraulically for burnouts — no plumbing or ABS modifications required. Works on all automatic models, even those not factory-equipped with SRT Line Lock
  • Launch Control: Enables factory launch control on non-SRT automatics
  • SRT Drive Modes: Unlocks Sport/Track drive mode selection on R/T models not factory equipped
  • SRT Performance Pages: Enables the 0–60 timer, quarter-mile timer, and G-meter on UConnect screens that didn't include it from the factory
  • Shift Light: Enables a shift indicator light on 6.4L models

Convenience Features:

  • Disable TPMS warnings: Useful when running a second wheel set without TPMS sensors
  • Disable seatbelt chime: Removes the reminder tone
  • Disable in-motion navigation lockout: Allows navigation destination input while driving
  • Disable skip shift (CAGS): Alternative to the $25 CAGS plug for manual cars
  • Disable Active Noise Cancellation: Lets more exhaust sound into the cabin

Lighting Features:

  • Light Show: Flash sequence of exterior lights (exterior lighting dance — party trick)
  • Fog light customization: Adjust DRL and fog light behavior
  • Puddle light customization: Adjust mirror puddle light settings
  • Sequential turn signal modification: Adjust blink speed on some models

Additional:

  • Video input unlock: Enable rear video through the head unit
  • Backup camera override: Allow camera to work while vehicle is in motion
  • Steering wheel shift controls: Use cruise control buttons for manual shifting

What Tazer Does NOT Do

  • Does not improve horsepower or torque
  • Does not modify engine tuning parameters
  • Does not replace a custom PCM tune
  • Does not work on all features on every model year — compatibility varies

Is It Worth Buying?

Yes, if you:

  • Have a non-SRT Challenger (R/T) and want Line Lock/Launch Control/Track Mode
  • Run a second wheel set without TPMS sensors and want to silence the warning
  • Want to disable the seatbelt chime and in-motion navigation lockout

Skip it if:

  • You already have all the features it unlocks (Scat Pack and Hellcat owners often have most of them from the factory)
  • Your primary goal is more power (this doesn't help with that)

Cost: ~$350–$400. Plugs into the OBD-II port; programming takes under 5 minutes. Fully reversible.
