UConnect Upgrades and Apple CarPlay / Android Auto Guide
The 2022 Challenger's UConnect system varies by trim. Here's what each version includes, how to retrofit wireless CarPlay if you don't have it, and the best aftermarket head unit options if you want to go further.

UConnect Systems in the 2022 Challenger
The 2022 Challenger comes with different UConnect versions depending on trim:
UConnect 5 (8.4" screen): Standard on most trims. Includes navigation, Apple CarPlay (wired), and Android Auto (wired) on higher packages.
UConnect 5 NAV (10.1" screen): Available on Scat Pack and Hellcat with Technology Group package. Larger portrait-oriented display, wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, premium graphics.
Key question before buying: Does your specific car have CarPlay/Android Auto? In 2022, both features were standard on most Challenger configurations with the Technology Package, but base configurations of some trims may not include them.
Wired vs Wireless CarPlay
The base UConnect 5 system supports wired CarPlay — you connect a Lightning cable to the USB port. This works perfectly well but requires a cable every time.
The 10.1" UConnect 5 NAV supports wireless CarPlay and Android Auto — your phone connects automatically via Bluetooth when you get in the car. Much more convenient.
Retrofitting Wireless CarPlay
If you have wired CarPlay and want wireless, a wireless CarPlay adapter is the simplest solution:
CarlinKit 4.0 or Motorola MA1: These dongles plug into your existing USB port and convert wired CarPlay to wireless. Your phone pairs once and connects automatically. ~$70–$100. Works seamlessly with the factory UConnect system.
UConnect Software Updates
Dodge pushes UConnect software updates periodically. These can be downloaded at no charge via the Mopar website (mopar.com/en-us/uconnect/uconnect-system-updates.html) to a USB drive and installed yourself:
- Download the update file to a blank USB (FAT32 formatted)
- Insert USB with the car running
- Follow on-screen prompts
- Update takes 15–30 minutes — do not turn off the car
Updates often add features, fix bugs, and improve responsiveness. Check annually.
Aftermarket Head Unit Option
If your car doesn't have CarPlay, or you want a larger screen, an aftermarket double-DIN head unit is an option — but more complex than on most cars.
The Challenger's dash design incorporates the UConnect display as part of the instrument cluster surrounds. Replacing it requires a dash kit adapter and retention of the factory HVAC controls (separate from the head unit on most trim levels).
Popular option: Alpine iLX-F511 11" head unit with Metra dash adapter kit. Maintains factory look with a larger, modern display.
Challenge: The factory backup camera, parking sensors, and climate display may not integrate perfectly with aftermarket units. Research your specific trim's integration requirements before purchasing.
Performance Pages and SRT Information Apps
On Scat Pack and Hellcat models, UConnect includes SRT Performance Pages — a set of data displays including:
- G-force meter
- Braking distance timer
- 0–60 and quarter-mile timer
- Engine data (oil temp, coolant temp, boost pressure on Hellcat)
These are factory features — use them. For additional data display, the Mopar Performance module pairs with UConnect for additional real-time engine data.
